Coming from the oil and natural gas industry himself, Brother Larry Factor knew whom to call when he needed a concrete slab, left over from an abandoned well site, removed at his church in south Oklahoma City.

Victory Baptist Church has been in OKC since 1944, but Factor’s congregation moved here in 1989. While the church welcomes all members, their congregation consists of 85 percent Native Americans from a combination of seven different tribes.

With the church building, came a large cement slab and other debris on the property from an old well site. Factor said besides the fact it was an eyesore, he also was concerned about safety.

“We have a lot of young people and some of the boys liked to jump off the concrete,” said Factor. “So we wanted to make this area safer for them.”

Factor was familiar with the OERB from working in the oilfield at a young age and seeing the commercials on TV.

“Like a lot of the young men around here, I started out in the oilfield and worked there for about 4-5 years,” said Factor.

For Factor, the OERB was an ally, and they went right to work on restoring the land for his congregation. Eventually, he said he would like to use the land to expand his church building.

“This has been a blessing,” said Factor. “We’ve been slowly upgrading and adding on, and we continue moving forward. This cleanup was a big part of us being able to do that.”

Factor said he would recommend for others to call the OERB.

“I would tell anyone to contact them. It doesn’t take much effort on your part besides making the call.”
